Boat Test #1728
By: Captain Christopher Kourtakis
This versatile boat is laid out for adventure. The Antares 8 promises to deliver an amazing day on the water and the perfect layout and design guarantees the ultimate boating experience.
For a 27-footer, this vessel is exceptionally spacious. With a completely enclosed cockpit and outdoor U-shaped seating that surrounds the folding table, the Antares 8 offers the best of both worlds. There is space for your cooler under the forward seat that is easy to access. The port seating seat is a rumble seat that can be folded out of the way when not in use. The starboard side dive door makes accessing the space easy from any floating dock. The integrated steps on the starboard side of the outside cockpit make accessing the bow simple and safe.
Once on the bow, you can access the windless system for the sun pad that takes up most of the bow area. I really like the high stainless-steel railing system as it makes you feel safe and secure as you walk around. The non-skid surface and walking channel make it easy and safe as you move from side to side.
The interior cockpit can be accessed through the large sliding glass door. Once inside you will notice the small but effective galley on the starboard side with a single burner stove. To the port is a face-to-face dinette. The forward seat has a flip flop back so that your guests can face forward while under way or so that you can both eat at the table.
The helm is nicely laid out with a single multi-function display with engine monitors and rocker switches that adorn either side of the wheel. The stereo is mounted just below the wheel. The shifter is wall mounted for the single power plant of your choice. The helm seat is a single bolster with a flip up bottom. I really like the window on the starboard side that slides open to allow for fresh air or for the captain to hear when he is docking.
The overall versatility of the all-new Antares 8 is endless. Whether you want a weekender, an island-hopping vessel or something that can fish, this boat has something to offer everyone.
