Boat Test #1758
By: Walt Jennings
If you are looking for a pontoon boat manufacturer who manufactures a variety of models, Godfrey is your company. With 26 models from 18 to 27 ft, they manufacturer a pontoon for any and every boater’s needs. Godfrey built their first pontoon boat back in the mid 1960’s and their hulls have stood the test of time, use, and abuse. New ones range from 18 ft up a whopping 27 feet with options beyond what you would normally find from any pontoon boat manufacturer.
If you are new to pontoon boats and don’t want to spend a ton of money on a new one, Godfrey has an entry level line of pontoons called their “Sweetwater” series. Available in 6 different models from 19 to 24 ft in length, there is a Sweetwater model for every buyer for skiing/tubing, to fishing, to just plain family fun on the water with the kids and dog(s). In this review we’ll look at their 20 ft combination “Cruise and Fish” model, the 2086 BF, a 2-tube model.
The 2086 has comfortable padded seating for the whole family, actually up to 11 people, but I’m not sure I would want 11 adults on my 20 ft 2 tube pontoon boat unless most were on the small side. Two bow swivel seats are standard for sitting while fishing and there is a convenient stern door for getting back on the toon via the stern boarding ladder if you or the family decide to go for a swim.
Options are almost unlimited with interior and exterior color upgrades, adding a third (i.e. center) tube for more stability, dual batteries, interior lighting, a stereo, chartplotter & sonar, and the list goes on and on. The price listed in the specifications box is the 2086’s base price with a Suzuki 90hp outboard and no options.
