Hurricane’s fabulous new bow-rider, the Sundeck 187.

Hurricane has been manufacturing affordable family boats in northern Indiana for almost 50 years and have recently concentrated on producing deck boats. Now owned by Polaris Industries (who also owns several other major boat manufacturers), Hurricane produces ten different model Sundecks in various configurations and lengths. With many different interior and exterior colour combinations to choose from, the Hurricane Sundeck 187 is one of Hurricane’s most popular models and comes standard with a Mercruiser 270 inboard/outboard power plant that will allow the boat to approach 50 mph with a light load.

With abundant plush seating for up to ten passengers in the cockpit and bow area, there are stainless steel cup holders every place you look, and a Bimini top is a nice standard item that covers the cockpit area and protects you from the sun’s rays as well as an unplanned rain storm.

A wrap around windshield at the helm protects the captain and anyone sitting opposite the helm from wind and rain, and the windshield opens in the middle allowing access to the bow seating. The helm chair is adjustable and swivels, and a Fusion AM/FM/Bluetooth stereo is standard along with speakers, while rocker switches on the dash can activate the bilge as well as the various lights on the boat. And if you think a white hull is boring, Hurricane Sundecks are available in a multitude of optional colours to suit any boaters colour palette.

There is a nice four-step telescoping stainless steel boarding ladder in the middle of the swim platform, and if I was ordering a Sundeck 187 I would add the optional Marine Mat decking onto the swim platform as well as in the remainder of the boat’s deck as it is soft to walk on, allows for non-slip footing throughout the boat and to some extent helps to reduce sound and vibrations in a boat.

The Sundeck 187 I/O is available on a beautifully painted single axel trailer (optional & dealer supplied) with magnesium wheels, LED lights, a spare tire, and a folding tongue that allows the boat and trailer to be stored in most garages.
