Cigarette boats first came onto the boating scene in 1970 and were built by the then famous Don Aronow who had previously built several other high-quality boat brands and had a reputation as a champion race boat driver. Aronow’s personal history alone has been the subject of several magazine articles.
Known throughout the boating community as high quality “go fast” boats, Cigarette boats today are available in various configurations in size and layout from 38 to 59 ft in length.
Known primarily for their huge inboard power plants, outboard power today has reached a new plateau of horsepower and Cigarette has realized that these new outboards can power their boats too, achieving nearly the same speeds as inboard power.
One of Cigarette’s line of high quality, high end speedsters is their 39 GTS, a center console design that can achieve speeds up to 82 mph when powered by triple 350 Mercury outboards. With its newly designed double stepped hull, the 39 GTS is an evolution is design and function.
A modernistic aerodynamic light weight composite T-top along with a swept back center console, this boat looks like it is going fast when it is actually sitting still. Guests will appreciate the 6 ft tall room in the stand-up plumbed electric head, a standard item on the 39 GTS.
With a total seating capacity of 12, six of the seats have side bolsters to keep passengers in place when the boat is traveling at high speeds. There are grab holds on the center console, and on the starboard side just aft of the center console there is a handy full-height, inward-swinging dive door that makes going out for or returning from a swim exceptionally easy.
What’s missing? Not much for these storied high-end go-fast boats. Maybe rod holders if you are an angler – but they are available as an option.
