The Dewildt Family of companies is a family-owned and operated business that is proud to be celebrating over 50 years of business in the automotive, powersports and marine industry in Southern Ontario. The business, founded in the 1960s by Ted DeWildt, a native of Holland, opened a small gas and service station in Oakville with his wife Jane.
Since that time, the business has grown to employ more than 100 people. Ted’s success was built on hard work, honesty, and genuine respect for his employees and his customers. These values have made the DeWildt name synonymous with excellence in customer experience. These values have been passed through the generations. Rick, Ken and Miriam have now taken over the family business, and a third generation of DeWildt’s are working at the various dealership locations.
Their long-standing Hamilton location at 450 Lake Ave North, at the corner of Lake Ave N and South Service Road, was recently joined by two new locations in Innisfil, right along the east side of Hwy 400.
The first location, Dewilt Marine Innisfil, at 1988 Commerce Park Drive, just south of the Innisfil Beach Road exit, is a full-service facility for Yamaha, G3, SunCatcher and Starcraft boats, as well as Yamaha power equipment. The huge two level indoor showroom and large outdoor grounds mean that they’ve got plenty of space for both new and used inventory all year round.
The second location, right next door at 1982 Commerce Park Drive (in the hug log home showroom), is a full line dealer focused on sales, service and well-stocked parts inventory. The location carries parts for Mercury, Monterey, Crestliner, Gekko, Larson Boats, Premier and Palm Beach pontoons. They are also a dealer for RC trailers and LoadRite trailers.
Between the two locations they have over 24 employees who work year round, including seven full time sales people who are all employees, not brokers. Summer is focused on boats and water sports, the winter is focused on snowmobiles, while ATV sales seem to be spread out over the entire year.
Manager John Dawe has been with them for over 3 years now growing the business. “Last year, we were proud to earn the Top 5 Star Platinum Yamaha dealer award for Central Ontario,” John told us with a grin. “We were the number one snowmobile dealer last year as well – that’s hard to do in this area, but we did it!”
