5 Unique Yachts Worth Investigating

These five yachts, each unique to themselves, prove how far we’ve come from the traditional motor yacht design you may think you know all about.

Azimut 60 Fly

Azimut Yachts was founded by university student Paolo Vitelli in 1969, and after acquiring Benetti in 1985, now hails from the province of Turin, in Italy.

The 60 fly has always been a top seller for Azimut, and this second generation model is a real gem.  Beginning on the massive flybridge, you’ll know everything about this yacht is unique when you sit behind the port-side helm station. There’s a sunpad to starboard, and large u-shaped sofa wrapped around a pedestal table behind the dual helm chairs.

On the main deck, the open aft cockpit is accessed from either side of the swim platform. The salon features a u-shaped sofa to port opposite another sofa for a true living room feel. Forward on the port side is the well-equipped galley, the helm is to starboard with a dinette for four adults behind.

The cabins are below, via a centreline staircase. Straight forward is the VIP guest cabin with an island berth and en-suite head with separate shower. The starboard side guest room has twin beds and is positioned opposite the day head to port. Aft, the full beam master stateroom features a private en-suite, a spacious closet and ample storage.  There’s a lazarette cabin with twin beds for the crew aft.

The Azimut 60 fly is certified to CE Category B, and with twin Volvo D13 engine should cruise around 26 knots with a maximum speed of 31 knots.

Princess V60

Since 1965, Princess Yachts have been built in Plymouth, Devon, United Kingdom and distributed all over the world.

The elegant lines of the all-new V60 encapsulate an expansive and sociable cockpit arrangement with a generous seating area and a fully equipped wetbar with a barbecue. When you are at anchor, the hydraulic swim platform creates a convenient launch system for an up to 3.3m tender, a jet ski, or simply a secluded bathing or suntanning area.

Access to the outdoor cockpit is via stairs on either side of the centerline aft-facing sunpad and the forward facing u-shaped sofa. Staying outside, forward on her main deck, via the ample sidewalks on both sides, there’s a forward facing sofa and a second large sunpad.

Inside the salon, the V60 features a very sociable layout with an aft-galley to port opposite a dinette. Forward and up one step, you’ll find a u-shaped sofa to port, opposite the starboard-side helm with twin high-back chairs with armrests. A retractable sunroof reveals the skies above at the touch of a button.

Below deck, up to six guests are comfortably accommodated in the full beam owner’s stateroom complete with an en-suite, and two further guest cabins. There is the option of an additional crew cabin aft.

Main power is supplied by twin MAN V8 1200 engines with a top speed around 38 knots, the all-new Princess V60 appeals as an adventurous sixty-plus foot express cruiser.

Cranchi Yachts T36 Crossover

Cranchi Yachts began in 1870 on the shores of Lake Como, Italy, near the northern border  with Switzerland – an area known for its scenic beauty, mountain vistas & historic lakeside residences. Today, their T36 yacht blends the rationality of a trawler mixed with the thrill of an express cruiser in a very unique design.

Featuring sterndrive power and a bow thruster the hull drafts only three feet three inches – opening up bays that other yachts simply can’t access.  The main deck features a large swim platform, an open aft cockpit with an l-shaped sofa to port, and wide sidewalks and beefy stainless rails around both sides to the foredeck where there’s a large sunpad and ample sized foredeck.

The same level salon features a u-shaped sofa to port, a galley to starboard, and a single helm seat with wrap around windows with great visibility. The lower level features a two stateroom layout. The master stateroom is forward in the bow and centres around an island queen bed, complete with its’ own separate en-suite, there’s plenty of headroom and ventilation as well as a hanging locker and ample storage.  The guest stateroom features two twin beds, additional hanging locker and convenient access to the day head.

At just over 18,000 pounds, the twin Volvo-Penta D4 300hp engines, the T36 should cruise at about 36 knots.

Neptunus Yachts 650 Express

Canadian made, right in St. Catharines, Ontario, the Neptunus 650 Express is a euro-styled express cruiser finished with a North American feel.  Built with Kevlar hybrid materials around an encapsulated foam core of six longitudinal stringers and twenty cross stingers, the 650 is certified to ABYC, Transport Canada & CE category “A” standards.

The layout features a hydraulic swim platform leading to the open aft cockpit, a level entrance to the salon, a raised dinette and a double wide seat at the helm station. One level below you’ll find the three staterooms. A forward VIP and starboard double bed stateroom, each with their own en-suite, as well as a full beam master stateroom with an aft-facing king size bed on the centerline, a private head, shower and walk-in closet. Large portlights in the hull sides provide plenty of natural light into the cabin, and a 12” porthole in each provides ventilation for the nights you may not want to run the air conditioner.

The engine room access is in the transom via the lazarette door. The crew cabin could double as a private office space away from your family or guests. Power is supplied via twin Caterpillar diesel C18’s offering up 1,000hp each.

Carver Yachts

This three level motor yacht, with the option of gasoline or diesel power, fits an incredible amount into her thirteen foot wide beam.  The flybridge deck features a plush double-wide helm seat located off to starboard, opposite a wonderful u-shaped sofa to port. Aft opposite the stairs, is a double wide sunpad.

Down the true fiberglass stairs (not a ladder), you’ll enter the cockpit from the large integrated swim platform to the starboard side. There’s a large sofa to port and you’ll enter the main cabin through a large double-wide glass door that opens out.  Stepping down into the cabin there’s a u-shaped sofa to port centered around a large double pedestal dining table.  The well-equipped galley is to starboard with the plentiful countertop height located just under the lower edge of the window for incredible visibility all around the cabin.

A centerline staircase leads to the stateroom level where the master stateroom is forward and features a v-berth island queen-bed, plenty of storage space, and access to the port side head with separate shower stall.  The guest stateroom is to starboard with twin single berths that convert to a full size berth with the standard filler cushion.

The C36 Command Bridge is a great cruising boat for a couple, with plenty of room for occasional guests or the grandkids to join you on board.
