Weekend adventure, dockside entertaining.
Boat Test #1482
Just recently unveiled at the 2017 Fort Lauderdale Boat Show, we were able to get our first look at the all-new Cruisers Yachts 42 Cantius. A smaller version of their 50’ and 60’ Cantius models, this new yacht offers an attention to detail and a layout designed for weekend adventure and dockside entertaining.
As you approach the 42, it’s hard not to notice the massive swim platform on the back of the boat. The optional hydraulic platform is something that I would expect to only find on a 50’+ size cruisers. Not only functional and easy to access from the water, the dock or the port side stairs from the cockpit, this large space with tracks for cradles is capable of holding your dingy or 3-passenger pwc. With the push of a button, the platform can be lowered into the water effortlessly to launch the toy of your choice. The folding stairs appear and disappear and the platform is lowered and raised in a really slick design. There is also a built-in grill and an abundant amount of storage for fenders built right into the hull.
Walking up the stairs to the main level, I loved the layout of this yacht’s aft foredeck. To the stern is a large L-shaped couch that wraps around the oversized wood table. This large seating area can accommodate 6-8 guests comfortably. Finishing out the foredeck is a stainless steel ice maker on the port side and the Sure Shade awing blocking out the mid-day rays during your afternoon siesta.
Entering the climate-controlled galley and upper salon cabin is effortless through a single sliding glass door that once out of the way provides an even flow between the inside and outside seating areas. The portside aft galley is immediately to your left as you enter and has all the amenities that you would expect. Immediately across from the galley is the raised L-shaped dinnete with large cabinets just above your head to store glassware, and other basics.
Continuing forward just past the galley is a side lounger / seating area to the port and the helm to the starboard. Above, the sunroof can be opened to invite the sea breeze or natural rays from the sun. Simplistic and functional come to mind when you sit behind the wheel. The throttles and joystick are positioned for easy access to the starboard side, while the switches compass and cup holder are within finger tips reach just beyond the wheel. There are two Ray Marine 12” plus flat panels that are perfectly angled for ease of use and vision whether you are standing or sitting.
Below, the master stateroom has a private head and separate shower and beautiful dark wood accents throughout. The large couch area across from the queen size bed provides a seating area while getting ready or storage area for your bags. The VIP stateroom is also plush and home to a queen size berth with easy to access stairs on either side. The long and narrow port windows on either side provide ample natural light.
For the all the sun soakers in our lives, the layout on the bow of the boat features a u-shaped seating area or it can be converted into chaise loungers long enough for two to layout comfortably.
The 42 Cantius offers a high level of luxury and craftsmanship that we have come to expect from Cruisers Yachts. With an abundant amount of seating inside and out and a free-flowing layout, this yacht is perfect for day trips to Toronto or an extended trip to the Georgian Bay.
