BIG NEWS: retaliatory tariffs on U.S. boats are over!!

Power Boating Canada is excited to share with you the HOT news that “all retaliatory tariffs on U.S. recreational boats entering Canada have been removed!”
We just got this news in from Boating Ontario, who has received the following communication from the Department of Finance Canada:
I am writing to confirm that the Order Amending the United States Surtax Order (Other Goods) was approved and registered earlier this week (registration # SOR/2019-111).  This Order amends the United States Surtax Order (Other Goods) to remove boats (tariff items 8903.10.00, 8903.91.00, 8903.92.00 and 8903.99.90) from the list of goods subject to surtaxes, effective April 30, 2019.  As such, all boats imported on or after April 30, 2019, are no longer subject to surtaxes (on a forward basis).
Regulatory amendments are published in Part II of the Canada Gazette on every second Wednesday. Accordingly, this Order will be published on May 15, 2019, but is now in effect.
Throughout the process of meetings and communications, Ottawa officials were clear that there would be no mechanism to recover the tariff paid on existing inventory. That position remains in place today.
