Chris Craft Calypso 35
By Thomas Dillon
Boat Test #1655
Chris-Craft essentially wrote the book on top-end speedboats. The company has, in various forms, been building their beautiful and functional boats since the late 19th century. The designs have timeless, elegant lines, wooden bright work and stainless hardware, creating classics that always stand out. Continuing this tradition, the Calypso 35 is a dual-console type boat with a large hardtop and windshield. Perfect for Canadian weather, the windshield is open only on the aft side, giving plenty of shelter. On the nice days when you want more airflow, the central part of the windshield folds up into the hard-top, stowing away cleanly, while the door slides open giving full access between the bow and the rest of the boat.
The bow area features deep seating, ensuring a comfortable and safe ride for your passengers. There is also flush deck table that raises with the push of a button, allowing space when you need it and a great spot for entertaining as well.
A very interesting option on the Calypso is the installation of a Seakeeper 2 Gyro stabilizer. The boat was designed with the Seakeeper installation in mind, meaning that the stabilizer is not an after-thought – it reduces rolling by as much as 90%. Even the most seasoned boaters could benefit from a little less roll out there.
A galley, shower, two berths and a toilet all come standard as well, giving you the option to entertain or overnight.
Chris-Craft builds quality products. It is simply part of what they do, and what they have done for generations. Many of the artisans that work on building these testaments to craftsmanship have been employed by Chris-Craft for years and years. Skills and knowledge are passed on through the generations, tracing back to the beginnings of the company. Though the wooden hulls of the early days have been replaced with the fibreglass of today, the workmanship is evident throughout the entire vessel.
