Excesscat Catamaran Excess 11

Boat Test #1662
The all new Excess II catamaran may be the smallest boat in the lineup, but small is the last word that I would use to describe this sailing vessel.  At 37 feet long and 22 feet wide, the Excess 11 is nothing but small and can offer ample space and comfort that you would not normally find in a product boat of this magnitude.
The focus of the navel architects when designing this yacht was to create a real cruising catamaran capable of taking you to the most remote spots on earth and to enjoy isolated coves and abandoned beaches. This breathtaking design sports two aft helm stations, a large cockpit, sporty rigging and ample space for living aboard.  Whether you choose the 3 cabin or 4 cabin layouts, the abundance of space is noticeable above deck and below. The construction process is just as impressive with the entire build being vacuum infused, with balsa coring in the deck and the hull above the water line only.  The large oval windows that adorn either side of the cabin and stateroom allow for natural light and very well integrated into the overall flow of the hull and don’t stand out like many other similar models. The windows in the cabin provide a 360° view of the water and assist when docking since you can see through the windows to see all sides of the boat.
Both cabin versions have two heads, one in the master on the port side hull and second shared by the two guest cabins on the starboard side. The salon and galley offer plenty of counter space and seating for you and your guests. Surprisingly enough, storage on this 37-footer is decent and within reach.
When the massive 592 ft² (55m²) sail is not extended, the twin 29 HP Yanmar engines make getting in and out of the harbors a breeze.  The option to have controls at either helm is also a plus. Beneteau states that at 3,100 rpms you will have speeds of 7 mph and at 2,500 rpms, your cruising speeds will be around 6 mph.  With the proper wind, you should see speeds more than 15-18 mph with the sleek hull design.
If you are looking for a sailboat to cruise the great lakes, the excess 11 is one that I would consider.
