zTBoat Test #1444
A great day boat, with a little more.
The Regal 2550 Cuddy is a great day boat that offers a little bit more. Though it is not designed for long trips, the 2550 will easily accommodate you for an overnight. With plenty of on deck space, including the largest sunpad in its class, you won’t run out of space for an afternoon of lounging or skiing. The cuddy cabin includes a fully enclosed head and a berth. This provides a great place to get out of the sun, hide from bad weather, or spend the night.

The design of the deck layout features a large lounger on the stern an an impressive cockpit. With this, the 2550 more than makes up for the lack of a bow-rider area. The cockpit has ‘L’ shaped seating curving around the port side, with a companion chair beside the helm station, just aft of the windshield. Behind the helm station is a ‘Cockpit Refreshment Centre’ that includes a sink and counter top. A compartment under the port setee allows for triage of a large cooler. The access to the cuddy is on the centreline of the boat at the forward end of the cockpit. There are folding steps up the port side of the access, which allow you to easily get up and onto the bow for anchoring and tie-up.
The cuddy cabin is not meant for long trips, but it will provide all the comforts you need for a night or two away. The berth will sleep two people comfortably. A full canvas enclosure is also an option, which turns the cockpit into a veritable tent. This is a great option for entertaining in the evenings and can even provide you with a few extra sleeping spots if you bring some friends along on the trip.
The Regal 2550 takes advantage of the proprietary hull design that Regal has developed, known as FasTrac. With a steep deadrise forward the boat provides a comfortable ride even in chop. As you head aft the hull flattens out, but Regal has designed in a number of lifting strakes and reverse chines that provide greater control and a better ride. A full mid-beam step forces more air under the hull for the aft run. This creates a vacuum effect, known as Conical Hull Induction which reduces drag. FasTrac hulls have been proven to provide both 26% faster speeds, and up to 30% less fuel consumption than the competition. This achievement was recognized with an Innovation Award at the International Marine Trade & Exhibitors Conference (IMTEC).
An ideal addition for the skiers or boarders, is the folding PowerTower that folds up or down with the push of a button. This arch provides a tow point, storage for the equipment, and a great place to mount the speakers for your Bluetooth stereo.
The Regal 2550 is a great day boat that can offer something more for you. With the innovative design features and excellent build quality, you know you are getting a great product. The 2550 will provide you with tons of enjoyment on the water, whether you stay close to home or choose to venture a little further.
