Boat Test #1588
By Brad Roberts
Regal Boats all-new for 2020 38 SAV is another example of their design team knowing what both dealers and their buying public want, and hitting the bullseye.
They dubbed their all-new 38 SAV a “sports activity vehicle” not wanting to pigeon-hole it into any one category. At its’ core the 38 SAV is a centre console with so much more to offer. Let’s begin at the helm where the four-across luxurious hi-back captain chairs are accessible from either side and feature flip-up bolsters, armrests, and the ability to fold down and rotate to face aft!
The dayboating side of this unique model is enhanced by tons of seating space for an almost unlimited number of guests since the 38 SAV is Yacht Certified. You access the deep and well-padded oval seating area up the bow via the port side walkway past the helm – don’t miss the retractable sunshare that pulls out of the hardtop. The aft cockpit features a wide bench facing aft with the seatback up against the unique entertainment island anchored around the rear supports for the overhead hardtop, also with an aft retractable sunshade. The stern bench faces forward, but flips up to create an unrestricted cockpit perfect for fishing. A wonderfully massive foldaway table makes this a area into an outdoor dining area large enough for the whole extended family. The double side entry doors in the hull afford the maximum in versatility for fishing, diving, watersports and loading up dockside.
The overnighting side is served by a cabin featuring full-height standing room, a forward berth that converts to a couch, an aft cabin that morphs from settee into a queen berth, and a spacious head with separate shower.
The performance side has power options up to triple 350hp Yamaha 5.4L V8 outboards mounted to a very spacious swim platform that is integral to the hull.
