Powered by Yamaha 200hp this boat packs quite a punch no matter what you are fishing for and where.
Captain Christopher Kourtakis
As the weather changes from summer to fall, so does our boating needs and the kind of fish that we want to fish for. No matter the weather or what you are fishing for, I wouldn’t want to be in anything else other than Starcraft’s 186 Sportfisherman. The dual console is going to protect me and my crew from the elements on a brisk cool fall morning and the Power Trac Hull with a max rating of 200 HP, is going to get up and go and get me where I need to go with a cruising speed around 22-24 mph. With passengers, gear and thirty gallons in the topped off fuel tank this fishing machine gets onto plan in under five seconds. There is a reason that this is one of Starcraft’s most popular models. Not all fishing machines are created equal and the 186 proved it. This spacious beast stretches eighteen feet seven inches, and the eight-foot beam provides stability for the sudden weather changes on Lake St. Clair, Lake Ontario or Georgian Bay.
The dual console layout if mirrored after the latest automotive trends and provides ample storage on the port side with the glove box and built-in tackle box storage holders. The helm station on the port side has everything that you would expect. Analog gauges, Ritchie compass, and quick and easy access to the accessory’s rocker switches on the right side of the tilt steering wheel. There is also room on the starboard side for a large fish finder of your choice. What separates this plush helm from others is the comfort of the dual captain’s chairs (optional upgrade) with air raising capabilities and an easy forward and back glide system.
The versatility of the 186 is second to none. If you need a runabout for the day, no problem as the removable bow cushions (optional upgrade) are plush and there is room for two adults to sit comfortably with effortless access to stainless steel cups holds. The center casting deck is removable so that you walk to and from the seats. When inserted, this forward casting platform is large and provides enough space for you to spend the entire day up there fishing for whatever you want. The abundant amount of floor storage ensures that you have everything you need at your finger tips. The forward storage compartment is large enough for an anchor. The starboard compartment is perfect for life jackets or fishing gear. The port side aerated live well is easy to access and use.
The cockpit is spacious and lined with a vinyl floor for easy clean up. The in-floor storage compartments are home to the main batteries and a up to a six-rod holder insulated lockable rod locker. Vinyl wrapped combing pads adorn either side of the gunnels. There is an open storage area on the starboard side for your PFD’s and gear. The port side has yet another lockable rod locker that can accommodate up to three additional rods. The rear casting platform is home to two jumper seats on either side of the motor with two stainless steel cup holder. The three-step stainless steel swim ladder (optional upgrade) makes access to the water effortless. The one thing that I absolutely love that Starcraft does is the accessory track channel system on mounted on the top of the gunnels on either side of the boat. This system allows you to mount rod holders and pretty much any fishing accessory that you would need for a killer day on the water.
Starcraft offers over six superfisherman packages for additional comfort and accessories. One must have package is the power package that includes a Hummingbird Helix 5, 70 PD trolling motor with quick disconnect. Depending on how late into the season you fish, the all-weather package may be something worth considering. There is also an option for custom downriggers if you are fishing deeper waters or the great lakes.
Overall, the Starcraft 186 Superfisherman is the complete package and packs quite a punch no matter what you are fishing for and where. Backed by the legendary quality of the Starcraft brand, the industry’s best warranty, you will not go wrong adding this vessel to your fleet or as your primary fishing machine. The stories that you will be able to tell and the memories that you will create all start in the 186 for years to come.
