Just when you thought that Starcraft had launched the best entry boat possible, they come out swinging and knock out another home run. This time it is with the all new SCX 190 OB. This low-profile design can reach speeds near 50 mph for around $40,000 USD, the 191 packs quiet a punch and is perfect for a day on the lake with friends and family.
This sporty deck boat can accommodate up to 12 passengers using either the l-shaped seating to the port in the aft of the boat or the wrap a round seating in the bow. The seats are comfortable and allow for maximum exposure to the sun or the water. Of course, the captain has their own special chair with flip up bolster.
The dash is laid out (several layouts available) nicely with lighted rocker switches to the right of the tilt helm. Immediately in front of the optional SeaStar hydraulic steering wheel and in great view for the driver are the multi-functional gauges. To the left is the Jenson remote for the 4-speaker stereo system. There are two open panels if you wanted to add a small GPS or other. Completing the dash is the removable smoke windscreen.
Accessing the water is easy with stainless steel boarding ladders both on the front and rear of the boat. I really like that both ladders are 4-step telescoping. It is amazing how much easier the extra step makes getting in and out of the water. The front ladder storage area is also home to the anchor locker and the layout is seamless and easy to reach.
Starcraft really did a nice job with the design of the 191 and using every inch of space. Ample storage can be found under the seats, in the floor and under the helm station. There is even a storage locker on the swim platform for your ski ropes and other wet items.
The EvA Soft Touch Traction Mat on the floors adds not only cushion when you step on it but looks great adorning all the flat surfaces on the boat.
A couple of options that are must add to the boat are the bow filler cushion, table and base, deck mounted ski tow or wake tower and the RGB color changing LED light kit on the speakers, under water and cup holders. If you are an angler, the fishing package that includes two fishing seats and live well are must haves and creates a great crossover option for the whole family.
On the water, the 191 can reach 30 mph in just under 7 seconds with the Yamaha F150. The best cruising speed is around 25 mph at 3,500 rpms. At this speed, she averaged 5 gph which isn’t bad for a boat this size. The 191 ran smooth on the water with light chop and carved through the water in the s turns.
