Boat Test #1602
By Brad Roberts
For 2020, the revolutionary new Sea-Doo platform that was introduced last year has been expanded to more models, including the new GTI SE 130/170 in what Sea-Doo calls their recreation line (one level up from the rec-lite line featuring the popular Spark introduced a few years ago).
Built on the new GTI hull made of Polytec™ GEN2 polymer, which features a colour-in moulding process for greater scratch resistance, the 2020 version of the GTI SE 130/170 features the new ROTAX 1630 ACE engine with 1,630cc of naturally aspirated displacement that can be tuned to either 130hp or 170hp, a closed-loop cooling system (a Sea-Doo exclusive) and it runs on regular 87 octane gasoline. Harness that raw power with two riding modes (Sport and Eco), and direct it where you want with the Variable Trim System (VTS), Intelligent Throttle Control (iTC) and Electronic iBR braking system (which stops faster than any watercraft on the market), and quiet it down with the D-Sea-Bel exhaust system and you’ve got a winning machine.
The Sea-Doo GTI 130/170 deck design features the new platform that mimics a living room on the water, with more room to spread out and enjoy whether riding or at anchor. The 3-up seating with a maximum capacity of 600 lbs, can be configured easily by removing the rear passenger seat to provide additional room on the deck – enough for an adult to recline on the nearly level swim platform. Owners can choose to add a fuel caddy, a bag, or a cooler with the integrated attachment points of the Quick-Attach LinQ System.
Or use the built-in storage areas (40 gals in the bow, 2.3 gals glove box) including the new watertight phone box with available Bluetooth or USB connection to the 100W BRP Audio-Premium System and two waterproof speakers, including a remote on the left speaker to change songs as you ride.
Sea-Doo created the personal watercraft market and the new GTI SE 130/170 is their latest innovation.
